A good option. Ultrasonography allows bowel wall evaluation (thickness and layers) and may help confirm GI disease. Segmental or generalized bowel changes can be identified as well as changes in the size and appearance of the mesenteric lymph nodes. The liver and other organs can also be assessed for obvious abnormalities.
