Using aseptic technique, you start the infusion with a 1.5 ml/kg (7.5 ml) bolus given over one minute and continue with a 0.12 ml/kg/min CRI (0.6 ml/min). Rintu appears to be responding well, and within the first hour of ILE treatment his tremors decrease in severity.
Later during the infusion, Rintu's catheter becomes compromised and mild extravasation of the lipid emulsion occurs. How do you treat this?
a) Discontinue the infusion, remove the catheter, and begin applying warm compresses to the area.
b) Discontinue the infusion, remove the catheter, and begin applying cold compresses to the area.
c) Discontinue the infusion and remove the catheter.
