Boots and Barkley product recalled due to Salmonella risk

A voluntary recall for Boots and Barkley six-count, five-inch Beef Bully Sticks distributed nationwide through Target retail stores has been issued by Kasel Associated Industries in Denver, Colo., for potential Salmonella contamination. According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the products were available to consumers from April through September 2012 and marked with bar code number 647263899189. The following lot codes tested positive for Salmonella contamination during analysis by the State of Colorado Department of Agriculture: BESTBY20APR2014DEN, BESTBY01JUN2014DEN, BESTBY23JUN2014DEN and BESTBY23SEP2014DEN.

The recall was a result of routine testing by the Colorado Department of Agriculture. Production and distribution of the product is suspended while the FDA and Kasel Associated Industries investigate the source of the contamination. No illnesses have been reported to date and no other products are included in the recall.

Consumers are encouraged to return the product to Target for a full refund. They may also contact Kasel Associated Industries at 1-800-218-4417 from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., MDT, Monday through Friday.
