Elise Lacher, CPA, co-founder of Strategic Veterinary Consulting Inc., addresses ways that veterinary practice owners can blend business management with medicine. This video was filmed at the 2018 Atlantic Coast Veterinary Conference in Atlantic City, NJ.

Elise Lacher, CPA: Part of what I do, when I talk with clients about blending business management with medicine, is to send them back to their medical training. I don’t know, as a client of your clinic, whether you’re a really good doctor or not, but I do know from just looking at things whether or not I’m going to trust you or feel that you’re good at your medical training because I look at other things. Periodically, I want my owners to walk through the front door and actually see what their reception area looks like. I’d like for my owners to pay attention to what’s going on in their clinic. Just like they’re looking at the behavior or the vital signs of their patients, I want them to be paying attention to the culture or atmosphere of what’s going on in their clinic. I also would like them to, periodically, come in through the front door, rather than the doctor’s entrance, so that, again, they can see what the natural habitat of their patient looks like.
