ASPCA aids in taking down largest U.S. dog fighting ring

The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) helped federal and state agencies  raid several suspected dog fighting operations on July 8. From the raids, believed to be the largest in U.S. history, arrests were made in eight states: Missouri, Illinois, Iowa, Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Nebraska, and Mississippi.

According to the ASPCA, the 400 rescued dogs are being transported to a secure facility under the direction of the Humane Society of Missouri Animal Cruelty Task Force, where they will be cared for until final disposition is determined by the U.S. District Court. 
The ASPCA along with other collaborating agencies-the Humane Society of Missouri, Missouri State Highway Patrol, United States Department of Agriculture's Office of the Inspector General, Federal Bureau of Investigation, The U.S. Marshals Service, and the United States Attorney-will further assist in the investigation by providing veterinary care and forensic evidence. The Humane Society of the United States, PetSmart Charities, and United Animal Nations are also assisting.
