APHIS selects director of national veterinary laboratory

Washington - The U.S. Department of Agriculture's Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS), has selected Randall L. Levings, DVM, as director of APHIS' National Veterinary Services Laboratories (NVSL).

Washington - The U.S. Department of Agriculture's Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS), has selected Randall L. Levings, DVM, as director of APHIS' National Veterinary Services Laboratories (NVSL).

In this position, Levings will serve as the lead manager for the laboratory and its supporting units. NVSL consists of four testing laboratories, three located in Ames, Iowa, and the Foreign Animal Disease Diagnostic Laboratory, which is located on Plum Island, N.Y.

NVSL performs animal disease testing for veterinary services and are the only laboratories in APHIS dedicated to testing for domestic and foreign animal diseases.

Levings served most recently as director of CVB, the center within APHIS that regulates veterinary biologics to ensure that the veterinary biologics available for treatment of animal diseases are safe, potent and effective.
