ATHENS, ALA. — An Athens veterinarian is under investigation by the U.S. Secret Service for allegedly counterfeiting $20 bills.

Dr. Bruce Nelson Young, 62, was arrested Sept. 10 at the Lincoln County Fair in Tennessee after he and another man were turned in by carnival workers for allegedly passing fake currency. Each was charged with one count of forgery, accused of photo-copying at least $4,000 worth of $20 bills, according to Doug Boeringer, sheriff's investigator.

Young has an active veterinary license in Alabama. It was suspended once during the 1990s after a 1994 conviction and federal prison term for counterfeiting, according to Boeringer and the state board.
