5 ways to recover from a mistake
It's the aftermath, not the error, that determines failure. Recover from any blunder with style and you'll emerge more successful than before the slip-up. Here's how.
1. Laugh it off
Some bloopers are too funny to forget. Realize that others may replay your gaffe and that it's OK to join in on the joke.
2. Learn from the past
Ask yourself—or your boss—where you went wrong. Was it avoidable? Develop a plan for what you'll do next time.
3. Apologize
Saying your sorry shows maturity and respect. Be sincere and specific and you'll only need to say it once.
4. Look ahead
Once you've made amends, move on. Dwelling on the misstep will only get you down.
5. Act quickly
Never ignore a mistake in the hopes that no one will notice. Show everyone you're responsible by owning up to your flub immediately.
