First, you need to provide safe ways for animals to move early on, whether that's through assisted standing or just going for a walk. Moving early in a trauma case keeps as much edema from forming, and allows them to move much more quickly. Second, use ice early and frequently. And third, use some way of better understanding tissue effects, whether through acupuncture, massage, or even laser.
