Metal fragments in horse, poultry feed leads to recall

St. Louis, Mo.

-- The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is reporting that Purina Mills has recalled specific lots of horse and poultry feed.

Purina issued the recall after receiving customer complaints of metal fragments in the bags of feed. Five complaints had been logged when the recall was issued, but there were no reports of animal illness, FDA says.

Recalled are two lots of 50-pound bags of Strategy Professional Formula GX horse feed and one lot of Layena SunFresh Recipe Pellet poultry feed. Lot numbers affected are 0MAR24NST1A1, 0MAR24NST2A1 and 0MAR25NST2A1.

The products were manufactured in Nashville, Tenn., March 24 and 25, 2010, and shipped to retailers and dealers in Alabama, Arkansas, Indiana, Kentucky, Mississippi, Missouri and Virginia.Questions about the recall may be directed to Purina Mills at (800) 424-5234.
