Dogs and cats use their mouths and teeth to interact with their environment and for many diverse functions. During the course of this use and abuse, tooth fracture is a common event. Treatment is mandatory when the dental trauma damages the pulp. Preventive measures can also be performed when the trauma threatens an otherwise healthy pulp. Treatment options of a diseased pulp include extraction or root canal treatment. This presentation will familiarize the general practitioner with the indications, advantages, and disadvantages of the various treatment options for their patients. It will also review the steps performed during root canal therapy. (1 CE credit)
