Pain Assessment and Prevention in Cattle

The detection and management of pain in animals is a key element of good animal care and is an active area of research and innovation. There is now an extensive scientific literature on the anatomy, neurophysiology and pharmacology of pain, and great progress has been made in the identification and assessment of pain through physiological and behavioral indicators. The assessment and treatment of pain in animals is a now major topic of scientific research. This presentation reviews some of the recent research on pain assessment and detection in cattle.
